NOx in flue gas are decomposed to harmless nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O) using ammonia (NH3) as a agent.

In the 1960s, when air pollution emerged as a major global concern,
Babcock-Hitachi K.K. started research and development for reducing of NOx emissions from power plants. Babcock-Hitachi K.K. first developed a pellet type DENOx catalyst. Based upon this original catalyst, Babcock-Hitachi K.K. developed a low pressure drop plate type catalyst, which is presently one of our major products.
NOx removal system is configured so that flue gas is flown to a reactor filled with a catalyst.
Ammonia required for NOx removal reaction is injected into the flue gas through a nozzle mounted at the upstream of the catalyst. If the flue gas contains dusts, the flow is led straight downward to prevent build-up and plugging of dusts.

All of Babcock-Hitachi DENOx Catalysts are produced in it's own manufacturing facility in Akitsu, Japan. Over the past 40 years, the manufacturing has been continuously improved as a result of going research into the product to increase its effectiveness. The present high quality, high performance and highly competitive DENOx catalyst is the culmination of four decades of experience and continuous development.

Hitachi offers the latest enhancement of NOx Reduction Catalyst for Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems which has been developed to increase the oxidation of elemental mercury.
This new catalyst called TRAC® (Triple Action Catalyst) increase the oxidation of mercury with minimal chlorine levels. It can be used on Bituminous and Sub-Bituminous (PRB) fuels. Not only does this catalyst reduce NOx and oxidize mercury, it also minimizes the conversion of SO2 to SO3. Thereby the phrase, "Triple Action".
Depending on the application, this catalyst can eliminate or minimize the need for other mercury oxidation agents such as halogens and activated carbon.
Triple Action Catalyst for PRB and Eastern Bituminous
TRAC® is a registered trademark of Babcook - Hitachi K.K. in the United States.
Our NOx removal system is used in a wide range of applications from utility boilers, fluidized bed combustion boilers, gas turbines, diesel engines, and industrial boilers to garbage incinerators. It has been field proven to various fuels such as coal, oil, and gas.
